If it moves we can cool it, heat it, power it and secure it!

vehicle airconditioning unit

Whether you need a straight forward 'air con’ or climate control system check and ‘re-gas’, a system repair, a persistent problem diagnosis or installation of a complete air conditioning into a vehicle, Mason's Total Temperature Control can help.

motorhome airconditioningNo matter what type of vehicle you have - car, truck, motorhome, agricultural, quarry, industrial, import or one off purpose built vehicle - the wealth of experience and expertise Mason's has available is second to none.

And, for HGV operators, Mason's supply and install a range of over-night cab cooling solutions for comfortable secure sleeping.

We have a network of mobile service engineers who can come to your work-place or home - and you don’t even get charged a call out fee! Or you can come to us at our main office and workshops near Swindon.

Air conditioning performance problems

It is common for the performance of a vehicle air conditioning system to deteriorate after two or three years, especially if the system is not regularly used. The refrigerant has a tendency to weep out of any flaw in the pipes, heat exchangers, joints or seals and the cause can often prove elusive.

If we have not been able to locate a leak using one of the first four methods of choice, which include high-pressure testing, we can inject an ultra violet dye when we re-charge the system. The dye will then circulate around the system as it operates and we will examine the system again, normally in two or three weeks, with an intensifying lamp, to pin point the source of the leak.

We find 99% of persistent leaks in this way.

Older systems and R12 refrigerant

The air-con’ systems on older vehicles, normally those manufactured prior to 1995, are designed to run on a different type of refrigerant to the one currently in use, known as R12 or Freon. R12 is a chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) type refrigerant, which has now been withdrawn from sale due to characteristics that stop ozone layer re-generation. In fact it is now illegal to sell R12 or any other CFC refrigerant to re-charge an air-con’ system in the UK.

The refrigerant currently used in modern vehicles, known as R134a (tetrafluoroethane) cannot be used as a direct replacement for R12 without extensive modification.

Mason's have, since 1996, been successfully using a specially formulated refrigerant as a direct and cost-effective replacement for R12. We recommend its use rather than the considerably more expensive (and potentially problematic) system upgrade to operate on R134a.

Bad smells

Do you get a ‘pong’ from your ventilation system, especially when you switch on first thing?

Car InteriorThis is a common complaint with air con’ systems generally, not just in vehicles. The smell is from bacterial growth on the damp surfaces of the evaporator - that's the heat exchanger under the dashboard - being blown into the car with the refrigerated air.

The solution is normally straightforward. We apply a solution to the surface of the evaporator to kill off the bacterial growth. The product Mason's use is a very strong disinfectant that is proven to kill bacteria, unlike some other products on the market that just mask the smell for a short while.

We have a great deal of experience at getting the solution into exactly the right place to solve the problem, not just spraying the solution down the air intake and hope it cures the problem.
